When I saw 3 discoloured shoe boxes on the shelf in the thrift store I was curious to see what was inside and couldn't believe my eyes, I should have bought one box but nooo I bought all 3 for the ridiculous price of R5.00 per box. (One of the boxes is much bigger.) Some dear soul had painstakingly cut them all the same size and such a variety of colours, etc. I wonder what she intended to make with them. After excitedly opening the first box and laying them on my cutting table in stacks of the same, then the second box, the table was now filling up. By the third box I was so overwhelmed that I just couldn't be bothered to separate the different colours, I was just plonking them anywhere I could find a space on the table - no wonder she gave them away!
What am I to do with these!!! there are literally thousands of them!!!

ReplyDeleteMy guess is they were cut to make a yoyo quilt. If it were me, I'd get some of Karen Kay Buckley circle templates and do a circle quilt.
Yep, looks like YoYos to me too and I second the circle quilt...

Looks like yo-yo's to me too, I'd definitely do a circle quilt, or maybe turn them into flowers - wow what a score!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure you have found. I think these could be used to make yo-yos or they could be used in applique, either machine or hand. You would need a contrasting color in the middle to help make it look like a flower. Or most definitely as part of a circle quilt. Have you been able to date the fabric? Could they be used in a quilt pattern that is from the same era as the fabrics?

OMGosh!!! What a treasure! As the others say, I believe she intended to make a yo-yo quilt, what else could it be? Why not use them for an applique quilt, squares in different neutral colors as background and then applique the circles in each square... Just my idea. :)

Ideas for your circles...would be yoyo's of course and also appliquing the circles in little squares or making a cirle with 6 of the circles on a square~! Maybe you've already made something.
